Joss Whedon: A Much Ado About Nothing?

Much Ado About Nothing Joss Whedon

Joss Whedon Does Shakespeare

This weekend news sprung up on the internet about a mysterious new Shakespeare project that Joss Whedon has just finished filming. The news was accompanied by a press release and a website to promote the movie. The project, based on Much Ado About Nothing, purportedly stars Alexis Denisoff and Amy Acker as the warring lovers Beatrice and Benedict, as well as other Whedon regulars such as Nathan Fillion, Tom Lenk, Sean Maher and Fran Kranz.

Frankly, we’re not sure what to make of this project. Any Whedon fan worth their salt knows that Joss has been a massive fan of the bard, often doing weekend Shakespeare readings while shooting Buffy. But to be able to work on as massive a project as The Avengers and also carry on a personal side project? That would mean that Joss Whedon has some wicked super powers of his own!

Part of me wonders if this isn’t some kind of a stunt, although tweets from Sean Maher and Nathan Fillion certainly do seem to confirm the rumour. Personally, as a huge fan of Much Ado, I cannot wait to see what Nathan Fillion does with the role of Dogberry!

Looks like this is a real project, that Whedon made during his vacation, which still means he has wicked super powers. Head on over to Entertainment Weekly to check out more images from the upcoming movie (which is intended for theatrical release) along with interviews with stars Amy Acker and Sean Maher. And as if this project wasn’t exciting enough, it looks like Sean Maher is portraying the deliciously evil Don John!
