Dr Who Movie Confirmed and Other Who News (Update!)


Variety reports that a Dr Who movie is indeed in the works, with Harry Potter director David Yates directing. Yates says that the movie will not tie into the series, meaning that neither David Tennant nor Matt Smith will be involved. Personally, I can’t say I’m particularly excited about this idea, and not just because it won’t involve Moffat or RTD. We’ve already had the Dr Who one-off that tried to Americanize it, with the dreadful Paul McGann TV movie. It just didn’t work. Now if they could find a new way to present the Doctor, perhaps delving into the origins of the Doctor… maybe…

December 2nd 2012 Update: In a tweet today, Steven Moffat said this about a Dr Who movie: Any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot.

Personally, this makes me feel a lot better about the whole endeavour.

In other news, the BBC have released a first promo image for the upcoming Christmas special.

The folks at the Beeb have also announced an official Doctor Who convention in March 2012 in Cardiff.
