According to Empire and SFX the upcoming reboot of Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers will now feature the armoured exoskeleton jumpsuits which, for those that choose to remember Paul Verhoeven’s appalling adaptation, were decidedly absent.
Producer Toby Jaffe assures fans that this new version will be much closer to the spirit of Heinlein’s novel and generally more patriotic. It may also be less violent.
Although I’m personally weary of reboots, this is one that would actually be welcome in my opinion, given that Verhoeven’s version chose to turn his film into a satire that only barely resembled the book. Then again, one good thing came out of Verhoeven’s version: uniforms that Joss Whedon could use in Firefly!
