Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Hello! How’s your week been? I’ve been a bit behind working on a few other projects, so only the one article this week, on the Divergent trailer which you can read here. Not a whole lot of geeky happenings going on at the IGP office, although I am excited to break out BSG with the board game group. Last week we played a game called Chaos in the Old World where we were all demons trying to corrupt the land. It was interesting. I’d like to try it again. However, reading reviews, I was actually surprised how many people had a problem with the basic theme. Apparently it was too dark for a lot of people. Wow. It never really crossed my mind. We play games with zombies, vampires and war so for some people to call it dark seemed…. odd.

Anyway, the biggest news this week was easily J.K. Rowling’s announcement that she is scripting a new movie set in the Harry Potter universe. The film will be based on the life of Newt Scamander, author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” You can read the full announcement over on Rowling’s Facebook page. I have to admit my first inclination is to feel like this is just another way to make money. Not for Rowling. She doesn’t need the money. For the studios. But Rowling seems excited by the project and I am always glad to re-enter the Harry Potter universe.

Speaking of spin-offs, Disney has officially confirmed that the Star Wars spin-offs will be origin stories. Not too surprising really, But given how poor the “origin story” was for Darth Vader and Boba Fett, do we really need more?

Finally, in a piece of casting news I am very excited about, Julianne Moore has joined the cast of Mockingjay. Moore will portray Alma Coin who leads the rebellion and (spoilers!) later becomes president.
