Doctor Who Review: Time Heist
The one in which the Doctor and Clara team up, Ocean’s Eleven-style, to break into the universe’s most secure bank.
Best Moment: I loved Keeley Hawe’s Bond villain-esque turn, but the best line of the night has to go to the Doctor himself. “What do you think of my new look? I was hoping for minimalism. I think I ended up with magician.” No. Scratch that. My favourite part was seeing the TARDIS in Clara’s living room. Seeing as how I also have a full-size TARDIS in my living room, this made me laugh out loud.
Verdict: Overall, I consider this episode a satisfying but not great episode of Doctor Who. It’s very fun, and the homage to classic heist films were nice, but then there were bits where things just sort of fell apart. Man-size vents anyone? Still, I enjoyed it. I liked Keeley Hawes, and the many characters she played. It was obvious and sort of necessary that the Doctor be The Architect. The reason for the Doctor and Clara having no memory made sense. And I liked the Teller, who like many new Who monsters, isn’t really bad. The banter was good, especially with all of the guest stars, and yet, it wasn’t exactly Hustle was it? At a certain point, it drifted away from the heist homage to more “running through corridors”. Still, it was a good, solid episode of television, which gave us more insight into the personality of this new Doctor.
