Doctor Who Review: Dark Water
The one where the Doctor and Clara travel to the “afterlife”.
Best Moment: Gosh, I’m not sure. I really liked the line about Steve Jobs. I also loved the Doctor’s introduction to Missy.
Verdict: Wow. This really made up for last week’s episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Poor old Danny Pink. He can never seem to catch a break. And since they’ve made a point of saying that the future is just one possible future, I have no idea how things will turn out for him.
I loved the scene with Clara at the volcano. We finally got a sense of just how much Clara cares for Pink. So much so she is willing to betray the trust of the Doctor and trap them both in a volcano overflowing with lava. Was it a cheat then with the patch? I don’t think so. I think it just proves the Doctor is always one step ahead. Well…. almost always.
He was a little behind on the Missy thing. Unlike, however, the many viewers of Doctor Who who already threw out the suggestion that she was the Master. Personally, I don’t know why I didn’t spot the Master/Mistress wordplay though. I think it’s a shame. A lot of people are upset because it was so obvious. The thing is, if Moffat hadn’t been teasing audiences for weeks, it would have been a huge shock, but people have been speculating since the first episode of the season, so it’s not. I guess another thing that has gotten some upset is the fact this now paves the way for a female Doctor. Really though. Get over it people. He changes everything about his appearance. Is it really so fat fetched that “he” could become a “she”?
I for one welcome a female Doctor. Though hopefully not for a while. I am really enjoying Capaldi’s performance, and, having recently got turned on to The Thick of It, thought it was a shame we couldn’t see the Doctor have a Malcolm-esque confrontation with Seb. Of course, there may be time for it next week. Although who knows, between Danny Pink about to erase himself, the Cybermen and the Master…. well, it looks like the Doctor and Clara have their hands full!
