The 2008 Holiday Gift Guide for Science Fiction Fans
Seasonís greetings! Itís that time of year again folks, and in the spirit of the shopping season, we thought weíd put together our list of some cool science fiction toys to give to all those fangirls and fanboys that have been good this year. Or, what the hell, youíve probably been good, treat yourself!
Darth Vader Toaster
Remember the recent Cylon toaster that allowed Galactica fans everywhere to see cylons on their toast every morning? Well, this is just like it, except instead of cylons, you get the dark lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader for breakfast. I will say that Iím still a little disappointed that neither the Cylon toaster nor the Vader toaster physically looks like Vader or a Cylon, but I can pretty confidently say that if thereís one big It toy of the year for the Star Wars chef, the Darth Vader toaster is it. And you can start your day with a little Vader for a mere $54.99.
Sideshow LOTR Gandalf and Indy Toht
Sideshow is one of our favourite toy companies. And for good reason! Their action figures rock! But seriously now, my two favourites right now are the exclusive edition Gandalf figure, priced at $89.99, which along with a beautiful likeness to Ian McKellan comes accompanied with Balinís journal. Indiana Jones is another thing that Sideshow has been doing really cool stuff with lately. Ever since they got the license theyíve been bring out some quality Indy figures. And now itís the bad guysí turn! If you plan on recreating some scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark, consider pre-ordering the Toht figure, priced at $99.99, which is due out in the second quarter of next year. Okay, so nothing for under the tree, but you could always wrap up a picture of it!
Battlestar Galactica Admiral Cain
Admiral Cain is the person you love to hate. Sheís made tough, questionable decisions. Sheís a hardass! Sheís also a new action figure made by Jean St. Jean studios. Standing at 7 inches tall, she has a pretty good likeness to Michelle Forbes, and for a mere $15.99 will probably make any Galactica toy collectorís day. The downside? It wonít be released until March. But it is on pre-order!
Okay, so the Darth Vader toaster is very cool, but my personal favourite Star Wars toy would have to be the two and a half feet long Millennium Falcon by Hasbro. If you canít afford the studio scale prop replica, then this is the next best thing. The detail to this thing is incredible, including, I might add, a holochess table which illuminates! Iím not sure how great this is for little kids in all honesty. The detail with which this was made means that thereís a lot of things that could get broken or lost. But for big kids? Oh yes! Especially the big kids that had the original Millenium Falcon, they will not be disappointed!
Aliens Motion Tracker
Now we get to move on to my favourite movie, Aliens! Master Replica made this limited edition Aliens Motion Tracker Replica- Artist Proof, which is now sold out everywhere but on Amazon. Most of the Aliens prop replicas are hard to come by, and this is no exception. And at a cool $749.99 itís certainly not for everyone. But this thing is just about perfect! Which is no surprise, being that Master Replica seems to have a corner on the perfection market! It even comes with a blinking display screen and sound effects so you can play Colonial Marine to your hearts content. But seriously, if $750 is a little out of your price range, search out other Master Replica items on Amazon. They have a lot of Star Trek prop replicas, Star Wars blaster replicas, pretty much everything a fangirl or fanboy would love.
